Résumé

Euro-American myths of Eden, the frontier, and the Promised Land continue to inform environmental literature and, therefore, mainstream environmental discourse. Laden with complex and conflicting social values, these myths undermine conservation policy at the expense of human and non-human communities.

Terre Ryan, Fordham University

Terre Ryan is a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow at Fordham University. She completed a Ph.D. in Literature and Environment at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her work has appeared in Studies in American Indian Literatures and is forthcoming in Weber: The Contemporary West.
